THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

"OLD RUGGED CROSS" BY LAURA HUVAL

*BEST CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC PERFORMANCE/SONG

“The Old Rugged Cross” is a deeply personal recording inspired by a sketch created by the late Grammy-nominated Cajun musician Al Berard, father of Laura Huval. The sketch became the inspiration for a new verse written by Huval, bringing a fresh expression to this beloved hymn while honoring her father’s legacy.

Produced by Laura Huval and Grammy-winning sound engineer Tony Daigle, the recording features the stellar, angelic piano of Grammy-nominated musician Eric Adcock. The result is a simple, prayerful, and powerful interpretation of this timeless classic—making an old hymn feel new again while preserving the beauty and reverence of the original.

At its heart, “Old Rugged Cross” is a prayer of remembrance, faith, and gratitude, pointing listeners once again to the love and sacrifice of Jesus and the hope found at the foot of the Cross.
